Inside Out Of My Mind

About Me

My photo
Born and raised in Metro Detroit. I have a deep love for the city and all that it has to offer. Always seeking growth, absorbing all that I can and cherishing the treasures that I collect along the way. I am fortunate in my life to experience many true connections with others where I am gifted with energy, light, passion and grace.

Creative Energy is Currency

Writing saved me in my childhood and continues to save me but more than that, it propels me forward into beautiful spaces, wonder-filled places and uncovers a gratitude that brings life to the simple joys in each day. The propulsion that creative energies offer are the prescription for healing, resilience and forward movement. Let us  shine the light withn ourselve that is brighter from the legacy of those who have gone before us. ♡

Roots are the growth that conducts the harvest

Studying family history is a wonder filled adventure. It allows us to take a look back at the trials, beauty, pathways, connections, intertwining that were traversed in order to make our existence a reality. Along the journey, we uncover all kinds of surprises, sad truths, beautiful relationships, complicated stories, family quarrels, resilience, road blocks, adventures, hardships, brushes with death, close calls, controversy, love, loss, heartache, failures, victories, and so much more.
Some say, why take an interest?  That is all in the past. My response is that knowing what transpired along the path to my arrival helps me understand the puzzle pieces, the players , and their journey is filled with lessons that give purpose to my existence. If x, y or z did not happen, I would not have the privilege to be here and experience this life as I am. It gifts me with gratitude,  inspiration, resourcefulness, resilience  purpose. Similar to looking back at our own stories to discover the lessons within them, it harkens a part of ourselves that overcomes but sometimes lies dormant when the book is closed. If we open the book and rediscover the stories of our own or our family resilience, we remind ourselves of our strength, our ability to navigate challenging waters and remember that we always have the tools to build the ship we need to traverse the roughest waters and simultaneously soak in the beauty as we travel.

Let It Rise

When the day to day

Goes up in smoke

Don't freeze and don't choke.

Let it rise,
Dry your eyes,
Wait for . . .

The clearest blue,
The clearest sign,
No devil in the details,
No mixed emotions.
Gratitude for the reveal!
Gratitude for the shake up!
Then, write the first line
In the new chapter of your life.

Time Tables

Time tables make minds stable

Or break them wide open
Break down the way forward
Elevate the truths inside
Deconstruct the journey
Fight against the memories
Seduce the joy, invite the wonder
Beckon the strength
Block the midnight call to arms as
Day slips in to halt the breakdown
That darkness bred the night before
Don't be drawn into the race
As sand pours through the hourglass
As the deadline approaches
Keep your mind from breaking
While you cast your gaze to the horizon
Dawn smooths out the wrinkles of time
And we wake before the breakdown
And, we break the day wide open!

 Life Blood

Pour the colors of your heart onto the canvas
The stark white reflects a thirst for pigment
Expression causes the blank space to vanish
A gift to be treasured by the voyeur’s vision
Let the words within, drip as poetry from your lips
Carved out from memories over the passage of time
Wellspring of emotions rushing into script
Interpretation as fluent as the gestures of a mime
Put pencil, charcoal or ink to paper reflecting the images inside
Sketching utensils rush from inkwell to linen
To transcribe those etchings littering the halls of the mind
No boundary, no box of rules on how to begin
Stream the consciousness of your soul into song
The notes are burning embers of pain and desire
The structure is a collision of moments that belong
To the string of vacancy spilling chorus into the fire
Strike the chords composed by your imagination
The audience will memorize the rhythm
Sparked by their desire for reconciliation
Music is the universal healing serum

Unplug the Circuit

My heart, like a flashing neon sign
From birth, calling to those, far and wide
They take their places in line
To freely take what is mine.

Line up, line up, I proclaim!
Whether out of pain or learned behavior
I forsake myself to the brink of shame
Forgetting that only I can be my savior.

Unplug the circuit, dim the lights
Darkness to guide the way
Shadows fuel the fire inside
Teaching the heart  to stow away.

Be a student,  with silence as the teacher
Allow it to do all the talking
An avid motivational speaker
For those with the patience to listen.

Allow the peace to flow in and around
All that my heart is anxiously awaiting
Harness the reticence that flows down
Funnel it into my potential for greatness

Invisibility

Oh, invisible me
Could I slip through the cracks
Even disappear into the atmosphere

Or could I slip inside
Your beautiful mind
And reside there

But, for the fear of not being accepted
Or the scalding truth of being rejected

No map to lead the way
For your voice reverberates
The music my heart wants to play
If only I could scale these prison gates

If only I could tear down the walls
And escape from inside
These sterile, vacant halls
I could be visible and alive

Uninhibited Beauty

There sits a pine tree
Off in the distance
It doesn't experience
Loneliness,  heartache or hopelessness.

It grows and breaks
In the wind, it shakes
It lies dormant for a time, cheating death
Storing nutrients, in preparation for a strong comeback.

It does not strive for perfection
No boundaries, limitations or expectations
It simply reaches for the sky without abandon
Water, Earth and Sun, a recipe to dazzle the imagination.

The Raft: the view and the memories

Sharing a few photos of one of my favorite spots, "The Raft". This is a little place on Lake St. Clair in Fair Haven, Michigan. This quaint little spot specializes in burgers and chili, but for me, it covets some very dear memories with my Daddy. We used to make the drive North along Jefferson Ave, ending up at "The Raft". As we traversed this scenic road, my Dad would share stories with me. We would order our food at the walk-up window out back and with no real care for time on those days, we would sit out at the picnic tables behind this little restaurant and share a meal while taking in the remarkable view. On most occasions, while visiting this old familiar spot, there would be a swan or two wandering around just off shore. If you ever make it out to that neck of the woods, stop in for a burger and an amazing view.

When Silence Calls

Darkness falls
Closed in walls
Can you hear it
When quiet calls?

Thunder rumbles, lightning cracks
Stops the world in its' tracks
Rain pours down
Drowning out the sound

No one would hear it
No one is around
It remains, leaves a stain
World of pain
Rained down
On this one horse town
Sun and dry air surround
The perimeter of this hollowed, solo ground.

"Harmony" project completed May 29, 2011

Earlier this year, I started a project which I posted here and I want to share the completed piece with you now. The project was definitely a leap of faith, something I had never attempted before and yet, it makes perfect sense, as it combines my love of music and my passion for art. The project is entitled, HARMONY and is a living, breathing, work of instrumental art. Yes, I said living and breathing because when it is played, I feel it is life in motion and this piece of art can be played. I would appreciate your feedback on this piece.

Riding the Wings of Love . . . to the Sea of Dreams and Beyond

Today's post is a painting that I created for my best friend and her family as they prepare to move over 2,000 miles away to pursue a dream job. The happiness I feel for them runs deep as this is an amazing opportunity and the beginning of a new journey in their lives. There is sadness in the absence that I will feel in my life with them so far away but I am certain that we will melt the miles away with love, connection and the strength of our 30+ year friendship.
I created this painting for them to express the joy that I see in their future that is built from the strength of their love and the strong and beautiful family unit that they have created which has put them on the path toward reaching their goals and dreams with passion. I believe the foundation they have built will take them on an amazing journey through the sea of dreams and beyond.
I hope you will enjoy this piece, I call it, Riding the Wings Of Love . . . to the Sea of Dreams and Beyond. Completed by Kyra Faith on May 28, 2011.

Destitute in an Alternate Reality

Propelled forward
Within the confines of my mind
By stretching the truth from
A vacancy left there by my youth
Stretch it until it bends into some alternate reality
Because the light of day exposes
Infinite possibility.
The limitless energy flow drives fear right through your skull
Like a stake into the heart of your dreams,
fear pierces the boundless energy and paralyzes your soul
Whisking away what lies within and
Leaving it cold on the floor in front of you,
lifeless and destitute,
framing the burdens of a life left in chains wrapped up in shame.

A Limitless Divine

With intensity in our eyes
Our hearts dancing through
A limitless divine,
Power and passion seep out
Beyond the confines
Of our minds
Into the gift of tomorrow
So that we may lift ourselves up
Into the deepest blue,
Into the richest bounty,
The boundless beauty
That we can touch with our minds.
All of that and more
Surrounds us here and everywhere.
We can borrow that which is within sight,
Absorb with our souls and
Every inch of our being
As much as we can,
Short of drowning ourselves.

Disconnected Connection

We run to convenience
Losing the personal touch
That as humans,
We crave so much.
We become so disconnected
All the while
Convincing ourselves
We are more connected, more in touch.
We are less in tune with reality,
becoming more and more disjointed.

If we cannot hear
The emotions behind the words
If we cannot experience
All that is revealed in body language.
Can we really engage?
Can we really connect?
We can read the words
Or hear the voices,
All is left up to our interpretation.
Still, it is like watching
A performance from backstage.

Peace Out, Peace In

Dive deep into
waters, wind,
life and the living.
Breathe deep, exhale,
take it in.
Wonder, beauty,
fire and ice,
swallow it whole.
Peace, fill your soul.
In the air
that fills the lungs,
Peace, flowing into
veins giving life,
a gift, a treasure,
Peace.

In the beginning,
In the end,
In between
Peace.
Drink it all in
and cry out for it,
Peace.

Waves of Fire in the Heart

This is a painting that I completed in June of 2010. I have been working on the title for it. I have been thinking of "Waves of Fire in the Heart" but contemplated "Oceans of Fire Inside My Heart" and "Oceans on Fire Inside My Heart". Any thoughts to share on which title you prefer? I appreciate any feedback.
